Oregon Trail Free

Game Review: Oregon Trail Free

Oregon Trail Free by Gameloft

This is a remake of the classic educational game Oregon Trail. In this historical recreation, you play the part of a man and his family headed west to cash in on the gold rush. There are all kinds of twists and turns along the way to keep your attention.
This game really shines, you can tell right away that Gameloft put a lot of time and effort into making this game not only look great but also a lot of fun. The game offers 8 skill based mini games, as well as 2 accelerometer based challenges. In the demo you get to try your hand at hunting, fishing, and crossing a river.
All of the games are very simple, and most of them I was able to pick up and play right away. Nonetheless, there are brief tutorials for each mini game. Side missions, hitch hikers, diseases, and bandits keep the game interesting, as well as challenging.
Before you set out to claim your fortune, you will firstly need to select your traveling party. Buy supplies, and choose which month to depart on your trek.

The good: Great looking cartoony graphics, the mini games and strategy parts of the game are quite enjoyable.
The bad: This demo is a total tease, you get only a tiny taste of all thats available in the full version of the game.
The breakdown: I completed the demo a heck of a lot faster than those dang prospectors got to their gold, I tell ya what. It was a nice distraction even though it didn't last very long. 4/5
